STATEMENT:
Much of my work revolves around the theme of armored bodies. Sculptures of protective shells and shields examine the invisible systems of protection that we invent to hide our vulnerability. The hard shell presents as a false front, the exterior hardness betraying itself in its very existence. Where there is a shell, there must be a soft thing underneath, something so vulnerable that it cannot be seen directly. But the fruit must be peeled- when presented with an object made up of such layers, we desperately want to see what is hidden beneath.
